Kyle and I planned a trip to Bayfield to celebrate our tenth anniversary about a year ago. Bayfield is where we spent our quick but wonderful three day honeymoon. After dropping the boys off with Kyle's parents, Kyle and I headed to Bayfield...alone. On the way we stopped in Iron River to check out the White Winter Winery. We were treated to wine tasting (they make mead actually), and a longer conversation than we anticipated. We should have figured the person working there would know Kyle's family in some way. However, being it was our anniversary and Kyle is a Bartholomew, we were able to taste all of their wines (some you must pay to taste) and were given complimentary wine glasses and a corkscrew. We were finally on our way about an hour later with some incredible wine to enjoy.
We arrived in Bayfield just in time for a wonderful lunch overlooking Lake Superior. After looking around at all the shops, something we could do much easier without the boys, we checked into our room at La Chateau Boutin. La Chateau is a beautiful house owned by the same innkeepers who own Old Ritten House Inn. We had reserved the same room we spent our honeymoon in. We then decided to take the ferry to Madeline Island, where we spent about an hour on rented mopeds riding around the island. Very fun. The ferry ride back close to sunset was perfect as well.
We had dinner, again overlooking Lake Superior, and headed back to La Chateau to enjoy some of that wine on the front porch (which has yet another breathtaking view of Lake Superior). After the wine we enjoyed a fire in the fireplace in our room. There was no way we could use the fireplace last time we were there as it was too hot. All in all a relaxing, fun and romantic day. We could not have asked for more!
