Since we are still dealing with this nasty cold making its way through our house, our excitement this weekend was limited to nice drives on Saturday and Sunday night (however we did have a very nice unexpected visit from my aunt and uncle). Saturday we explored some of the little old mining towns, and found a nice county road to do some rock hunting on. But what we were really after was finding some old mine dumps and pits. We were a little more successful than we thought we would be on Sunday. Lets just say we got a little too up close to a huge mine pit....only we were at the top of it, a little too close to the edge for comfort. But we got some great pictures, and we made our way through without the road giving way on us sending us down into the pit. It really was beautiful, the Grand Cannon or Black Hills of the Iron Range if you will. The boys loved off-roading on the muddy wet roads. The last picture is of the truck tires after our trip...that red dust that anyone who has worked at the mines or railroads (or any wife who has had to wash it out of work clothes) knows all too well! Someday we will have to find our way onto the lake and explore without the threat of impending doom :)
Quinton woke with a cold this morning as well! The day before we move - ugh. Ah, well. The pictures of your day out (minus the truck tire!) are beautiful.
