Mini Vacation

Kyle had to be in Grand Marais for work last week, and the boys and I decided to join him for a trip to the North Shore. We stayed in a great hotel with a nice beach right on Lake Superior. We were even able to have the window open most of the night and enjoyed listening to the waves. Until about 4:30 when the seagulls started squaking. Nate and Ben absolutely LOVED staying in the hotel, and I loved having the lake at my door step or one evening. The next day, Kyle went about his business and the boys and I hung out in Grand Marais on the beach. Kyle was done much sooner than expected and was able to join us for lunch at Sven and Ole's. After spending a little more time by the lake in Grand Marais (Nice cool weather, such a relief) we headed to Silver Bay for our second night of the trip. We stayed at the AmericInn this time, and although we were not right on the lake we did still have an incredible lake view from our room. This hotel had a water slide, which the boys were to small to go on...but that Kyle and I both enjoyed. It also had a small frog water slide that went into a wading pool for the boys. They spent at least two hours on that thing...they LOVED it. The next day we took our time on the way back to the cities stopping at Split Rock Lighthouse, Gooseberry Falls, Two Harbors, and Duluth's Harbor. At the end of the day we brought the boys to "playfront" in Duluth. Those of you who are familiar with Duluth know what this playground is like. For those who are not, it is all wood and like a castle with lots of different places for kids to climb around in. Well, there are a lot of steps in this thing, and we didn't think about the fact that it would be difficult for Nate (with one eye, and limited depth perception) to make his way around this thing. He really had to concentrate on what he was doing. But he had fun none the less. It was a great trip, was REALLY great to be by the lake for a few days, and the kids loved it as well.
