Swimmers Take Your Marks

Swim season started a few days later than we anticipated for Ben due to a nasty cold that kept him home from school and out of the pool doing nothing but laying on the couch for 4 days. He ended up missing the first 2 meets of the year, which involved an overnight trip to the cities that he was just not up to doing. Said nasty cold is now working it's way though our house and Nate was home sick today.

The first meet of the season for Ben took place in Hibbing last night. After a successful varsity season as an 8th grader last year, he has really been looking forward to this season. His first event was his 200 freestyle, and his time was decent for the beginning of the season. However, he was a little disappointed, and you could tell he was still getting over his illness. He placed 5th though, which is still a nice placement for a freshman.

His next event was his 100 freestyle. Not requiring as much endurance, he was much more pleased with his time in this event. His goal was to get under a minute, and he made it in 59.12 seconds. He placed third in a very competitive event against a very good team. That time also officially qualified him for Midwest Regionals in the 100 freestyle.

It's always interesting to see the progress as the season goes on, and watch the team come together for sections. He works hard, but has fun as well. I can't wait to see what he and his teammates accomplish this year!
