Cold Weather, Pneumonia & Birthdays

It has been colder than cold here, and we finally reached above zero for the first time in days here. We also got about 3 inches of some of the lightest fluffiest snow ever today. Nate had been waking up in the middle of the night, and I couldn't figure out what was going on. Kyle was the one to think about the fact that the bed is on an outside wall...he was getting cold. Easily fixed by moving the bed out about a foot. Our sleepless nights were to continue though...

On Saturday, Ben started coughing a bit... and we didn't think too much of it other than we hoped he wouldn't be too sick on his birthday. By evening he had a high temp of 102.5 or so. I monitored him throughout the night (sleepless night one), but he didn't get too bad. Until the morning anyway when he reached a high 103.9. OK, so the birthday plans were off... throughout the day he kept spiking high fevers and his fever wasn't exactly low with the help of Tylenol AND Ibuprofin. His birthday was anything but fun for him. That night he slept in the bed with me, and Kyle camped out in the basement. His fever was active all night though and the cough was getting worse (sleepless night number two). He was scheduled for a well child exam on Monday and I called to make it a "sick" child exam instead. Sure enough he had a noisy left lung...pneumonia. The antibiotics have taken care of the fever, but the cough is still terrible! He coughed all night last night and many hours non stop (sleepless night number three the worst one yet). Today, he cries when he coughs because it hurts...but he has managed to get a little bit of sleep. Hopefully we all will be able to do the same tonight.
